Siddhi is the Sanskrit word for occult power(s). I use the word because it best defines (for me) the powers new age people seek, and I like the way it sounds.

Siddhis are nice but they are not a prerequisite for being a spiritual person. I personally believe our purpose for being here is to develop mastery of ourselves. People mistake siddhis for mastery and that could not be farther from the truth. A person with ill intent can develop powers.

As we grow (spiritually evolve) we are given gifts, most of which involve certain abilities/powers. But the key is the growth must come first to prevent perversion and soul damage. For example, would you give a 5 year old a loaded gun or the keys to your car? Of course not! I was biting at the bit to get to drive but I had to wait for years to learn the responsibility needed to properly drive. The same is true regarding our spiritual abilities. Spirit is not stupid it’s not going to give you too much power. You will NATURALLY have exactly the amount of power you can handle.

Just like a thirteen year old wanting to drive, we can get caught up in wanting the power before we are ready (have a solid enough foundation to support it). In some cases we can push so much that we get a small bit of our power too early. The problem with this is that our *illusion of separation loves this new found power because it makes it feel special. This is when a siddhi can become a “golden chain.” A golden chain is made of gold and looks really pretty but it is still a chain binding you to illusion.

The true way to develop well balanced power is to always work on yourself. The thing is most people like to focus on their surroundings and try and control them rather than taking the effort to control or master their self.

I am not saying siddhis or trying to develop them is bad, just that they can be a trap if you are not careful.

*I use the term “illusion of separation” to describe what some call the ego. I think the ego has gotten a bad rap. We all need an ego to be here. It is the sum of who we are in this life time with weaknesses, strengths, etc. The ego directs your life (e-go: energy direction). The ego only becomes bad when we over identify with it, and that happens as a result of the illusion of separateness.

“Seeking to move mountains

You strain and tire

When immersed in the fountains

You lose your desire.”   -me

Translation- In our youth (ignorance) we wish to be able to do control the world and do special things. This leads us to struggle and strain in life. But once one is totally immersed in the “flow” the desire to change the outer is replaced with the awareness that all things are as they should be. Then one’s desire is to be able to be at peace/one with this flow/now. To be able to be in the flow means we have to release anything that prevents from flowing.

I hope that made sense.

Peace out, Jon
