Just like any other relationship, I believe we should all develop our own relationship with God/Uni-verse/Love or whatever else you want to call the life giving force. A relationship that is based on "one on one" experience not a relationship based on what others think and feel.

Like the Zen Koan "Don't mis-take the finger pointing at the moon for the moon." In other words, Jesus, Buddha and other teachers were simply trying to show us the way (Tao) to a relationship with God by pointing it out the best way they knew how, which was based on their own personal experience. BUT...human nature tends to get caught up in the messenger not the message. We then get CHRISTianity based on Jesus'/Christ's experiences or BUDDHAhism based on Buddha's experiences and then don't bother to take it further to create a 1 on 1 relationship with God.

Would you want somebody to have a relationship with you based on their personal experience of you or on what they heard from others???

Everyone is free to create their own religion (re-tie to God) just don't let your ego think it needs everyone else to think or feel the same way you do. This only leads to WAR...We Are Right which gives the false conclusion that some are wrong. We are all brothers and sisters!!! For me that is the only lesson we need to learn. Learn it and you inevitably come to the conclusion that loving and honoring one another is the only thing we are here to do which leads to the world changing. It must first happen inside of us before we can see it reflected in the world.

Let's face it, most religious rites and HOLYdays are a hodgepodge of beliefs systems. For example Easter, it is meant to represent Christ resurrection and reemergence from his tomb. On that same day we have our children participate in a ancient fertility rite that has been slightly altered. Heeeelllo...a rabbit ("_______ like rabbits") hides Eggs (seeds of life - ovals - ovaries). I was raised Baptist, and was disturbed one CHRISTmas when I saw on someone's mantle a nativity scene with Santa kneeling to give gifts to baby Jesus. I was like "Whaaat???" My limited beliefs at the time made me feel offended by what I saw. I know see our beliefs, helpful in making it through life, cloud our ability to see things clearly. Santa is short for Santana which means "Holy" and Clause is short for Nicholas. Santa Clause is an altered Saint Nicholas. Saint Nicholas the patron saint of children, sailors and ships. What does Santa do? He sails the night skies in a wooden sleigh/ship to bring good to children.

I think it is good that we combine different views/beliefs. As a friend of mine once expressed to me "The most dogmatic/rigid religions seem to be the most dangerous."

Peace Jon

Below: A few poems by Rumi who was another finger pointing at the moon aka God/UNI-verse! Imagine being in love with God. That is what his poems are about.

          Ode 314

A lifetime without Love is of no account

Love is the Water of Life

Drink it down with heart and soul!

THIS IS LOVE

This is love: to fly toward a secret sky,

to cause a hundred veils to fall each moment.

First, to let go of live.

In the end, to take a step without feet;

to regard this world as invisible,

and to disregard what appears to be the self.

Heart, I said, what a gift it has been

to enter this circle of lovers,

to see beyond seeing itself,

to reach and feel within the breast.

LOVE IS RECKLESS

Love is reckless; not reason.

Reason seeks a profit.

Love comes on strong,

consuming herself, unabashed.

Yet, in the midst of suffering,

Love proceeds like a millstone,

hard surfaced and straightforward.

Having died of self-interest,

she risks everything and asks for nothing.

Love gambles away every gift God bestows.

Without cause God gave us Being;

without cause, give it back again.

THOSE WHO DON'T FEEL

Those who don't feel this Love
pulling them like a river,
those who don't drink dawn
like a cup of spring water
or take in sunset like supper,
those who don't want to change,

let them sleep.
This Love is beyond the study of theology,
that old trickery and hypocrisy.
I you want to improve your mind that way,

sleep on.
I've given up on my brain.
I've torn the cloth to shreds
and thrown it away.

If you're not completely naked,
wrap your beautiful robe of words
around you,

and sleep.

Those who don't feel this Love
pulling them like a river,
those who don't drink dawn
like a cup of spring water
or take in sunset like supper,
those who don't want to change,

let them sleep.
